Scuba Tanks or Scuba cylinder as they are also known come in two types:

Steel Scuba Tanks

These are more expensive than aluminium scuba tanks but they are more durable. These scuba tanks are excellent for a high capacity of air at low pressures.  Properly maintained these steel scuba tanks will last for years.

Aluminium Scuba Tanks

These are the most common scuba tanks because they are long lasting and cheaper than steel scuba tanks. They are lighter making them easy to carry and wear.

The size of the scuba tanks you require is determined by the amount of air you will need, together with size, your fitness level, and other factors.

Another type of scuba tank which is becoming increasingly popular is the pony bottle. A pony bottle is a little extra tank which straps to your gear, It has separate staged regulators and sometimes gauges as well. In case your equipment malfunctions or you misjudge your air consumption the pony bottle contains enough air to do a proper slow ascent to the surface.
